Local Units

IRTA has a proud and enduring legacy of advocacy on behalf of Illinois retired educators. Members join IRTA because our mission is singular and clear: to protect, defend, and strengthen the pension benefits earned through a lifetime of service in education. Your priorities as a retired educator are our priorities, and IRTA serves as your collective voice at the state level.

Each year, IRTA continues to grow in both membership and influence, increasing our ability to advocate effectively for retirees and preserve the benefits that matter most. Together, we build the strength needed to ensure retirement security for current and future retirees.

IRTA’s local units are an essential part of this advocacy network, supporting state initiatives while engaging members at the local level. Through regular meetings and activities, local units provide opportunities for retirees to stay informed, involved, and connected with colleagues who share a commitment to protecting our profession and our benefits.
